They should be remembered as people and as journalists — not simply as numbers in a death toll.
Each profile records who they were: their work, their relationships, their character, and the communities they served.
Journalism does not happen without people
Behind many of the world’s biggest stories are the local journalists and media workers who operate where international media cannot easily reach. Beyond a Statistic documents those killed while reporting in Palestine, Israel and Lebanon between 7 October 2023 and 7 October 2026 — and, with support, will grow into a wider living archive open to other conflicts.
Existing organisations do vital work recording attacks on journalists and verifying the circumstances of deaths. This project has a different purpose: to preserve the person behind the record — their photographs, journalism, memories, relationships and personal lives.

Do you have a photograph, story, biography or personal memory of a journalist or media worker who should be remembered? We welcome contributions from journalists, colleagues, families, friends and press organisations. All submissions are reviewed with care, and biographical details are subject to editorial verification before publication.
